This is a call for people to organize in the North County of San Diego and in all Mexican/Latino Communities in general. Please attend the meeting on Monday, August 1st at 6:30 p.m. at the California Rural Legal Assistance office in Oceanside

Due to the situation occurring in Campo in which the Minutemen supporters are calling for general support for their movement, activists, including migrant rights lawyer Claudia Smith and film maker Mark Day, are making a call to organize in defense of the migrant workers in each of the cities which together comprise North County which include Fallbrook, Rainbow, Escondido, Vista, Carlsbad, Oceanside, Valley Center, Del Mar, Encinitas, San Marcos, Rancho Bernardo and the surrounding areas.

This call to action is based on the notion that in times of escalated political and social conflict and outright attacks on Mexican/Latino workers (currently manifesting itself in the form of the situation in Campo and the Minutemen Project) other people tend to express their frustration and racism in their own communities, usually in a violent and terroristic form or through unlawful means which deny these workers their constitutional rights, and the more visible targets will be the Mexican/Latino day laborers who gather in the mornings in various cities to practice their legal right to solicit work.

The objective is to recruit a few residents of each of the above mentioned cities to receive legal rights training in order to defend the rights of the day laborers in each particular city. For example, a few representatives from Fallbrook who have received legal rights training will then be responsible for visiting every location where the day laborers gather in to find work in Fallbrook and will educate these workers as to their rights as workers. These organizers will visit each site at least once a week in order to maintain contact with these workers and report any unlawful actions either by citizens, store owners, the police or the migra.

This is an urgent call for we must be prepared and organized in order to defend our community to the best of our ability.

We will have a meeting on Monday, August 1st at 6:30 p.m. at the California Rural Legal Assistance office in Oceanside.

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!
