From Downing Street to Port au Prince: A Benefit for the Children of Haiti
Don't miss this benefit for the children of Haiti on Saturday!
From Downing Street to Port au Prince: A Benefit for the Children of Haiti
Please join Sacramento PDA this Saturday at 7pm for an evening of spoken word art, music, and political resistance to the Bush war machine. This event will be held in solidarity with more than 300 hundred town hall meetings and house parties taking place all across the nation on July 23, organized by After Downing Street.org (http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/).
The Straight Out Scribes (http://www.straightoutscribes.org/) will provide their unique resistance poetry steeped in the oral traditions of the African American liberation struggle. The Sacramento Labor Chorus will share their wonderful music celebrating the unity and solidarity of working women and men all over the world. Leisa Faulkner of PDA and the Coalition for Democracy in Haiti will report on her recent 15-day Geneva fast and her upcoming humanitarian mission to Haiti.
We will also show a short video on the political significance of the Downing Street Minutes and will present an update on our local Anti-War Resolution currently being considered by the Sacramento City Council. This event will be a great opportunity for folks new to PDA to get a chance to mingle with our local chapter leaders and other local activists.
The event will take place at the home of Sacramento PDA Board Member Eric Vega at 3932 Downey Way, Sacramento 95817. You can find a map to Eric's house here:

Everyone is welcome to share your favorite munchie and/or beverage. Beer and soft drinks will be provided. Proceeds will benefit the children of Haiti. ($10 suggested donation at the door, no one turned away for lack of funds). For more details or to RSVP, please contact me at paulb [at] csus.edu or 916-391-0737.
See you all Saturday!!
