Bail money needed. We still need to get one person out

by the Collective
1 person remains in jail. Heneeds to get out.
Dear Community,

The collective in support of July 8 anti-G8 protestors in San Francisco seeks funds for bail and legal defense of those arrested. Our immediate goal is to raise $5000 to post bail for the individual still in custody after one week. We want him back with us in the community! Let’s show our solidarity and pitch in what we can! Every little bit helps from $5 to $500! Once he’s out, funds will go towards the legal defense of others being targeted as part of this investigation. Please make checks payable to: Midnight Special Law Collective with “Anti-G8 Protest” written in the memo line. Send checks to: National Lawyers Guild, 558 Capp Street, San Francisco, CA 94110.

Please Note: This collective is distinct from any individual's legal defense team or the organizers of the action!

Thanks everyone for your support and solidarity!

~The Collective

Isn't that address the same as the SF Tenants Union? Are they supporting this guy jailed for assaulting a cop? Shame....

Did the guy who's still in jail assault the cop?

I don't think so, but we should still support him even if he didn't!

The NLG has an office in the same building as the Tenants Union. Stop jumping to conclusions and spreading misinformation.

And remember that innocent until proven guilty is still in effect in this country.

Try a little compassion.

I usually don't title these pieces on Indybay as The Truth, because i don't believe opinion pieces have truth or falsity in them. But in this i can state unequivoctingly certain truths.
1. Everyone arrested for activities from the anti-G8 demonstration is out of jail.
2. No one arrested or who was in jail was charged with the attack on the cop which gave him some head wounds. The police themselves say no one has been charged. They and the FBI are still investigating. The mayor has a $10,000 reward out for information leading to the perpetrator of the "crime". No one has come forward to claim the money.
3.The head wounds occurred after the cop had run into people with his car, and then upon getting out, swung his nightstick at demonstrators. (I admit this is hearsay,)
4.The National Lawyers Guild address was being used by The Anti-g-8 Legal Defense Collective as a drop for money to raise bail for the people arrested. No one, not the Guild, the Tenants Union (who are just co-tenants in the building with the Guild), not the Anti-G8 Legal Defnse Collective supports assaulting officers. The Guild and the Collective believe in defending anti-capitalist protesters, and in people's rights to be innocent until proven guilty. I personally believe that police officers are innocent until proven guilty.
5. Idiots shouldn't post things they know nothing about.
