Racism in the Castro

by Tranny Talk
Large turnout against the Badlands. This piece will be opinionated, and the view of a MTF transsexual.

I have been hearing for months about the racism experienced by people who have patronized Badlands. This is my experience with the Castro.
I used to work at Hot Cookie. No African Americans were ever hired.
I was treated like shit by co-workers(at Hot Cookie)
When I walk around the Castro neighborhood, White and Black Gay men routinely bump into me and make me feel unwanted.
When I try to reach out to African American men they put up their noses and do not give me time of day.
Whenever I went to a bar in the Castro someone always wants to fight with me.
Conclusion:
How does the African American community expect acceptance when they don't accept others?
Why should anyone care about another bar? There are lots of places to buy drinks and dance, and their is not one damn tranny or lesbian bar.
The Castro seems to only cater to white yuppies who can afford to live
there, Gay white men, fag hags and drag queens.
I still support the protesters, BUT the Saturday night protest I did not see any transsexuals in the bar or protesting.

That hood needs lots of change!

Oops wrong comment on last picture. I have noticed that lots of people including transsexuals use drugs. Get off the drugs already. Society is over the drug use.

" How does the African American community expect acceptance when they don't accept others? "

Is the African American community unaccepting or do you just mean that the Castro is gentrified and stuck up and unless you live up to a certain body image certain poeple (Black, white or other) wont treat you with real respect?

First of all, lots of love for my sisters KK and Dina from Tranny Talk. Hi guys!

I read the comments posted RE: TrannyTalk July 17, 2005 - Maybe there were not transexuals on that protest and I concur with the feelings represented on that post, however, I was invited by LYRIC via Mission Agenda to a demonstration of protest on Sat. Aug. 20 to publicly expose the Badlands's bad faith in backing away from mediation.

I had to ask myself "Why should I go and support members of a segment of the queer community that at best: ignores, is ashamed of, excludes, often mocks, aggressive at times and at worst: discriminates or is just hostile to Trannies, specially TransWymen like me?"

I DO NO LIKE TO GO THE THE CASTRO and I just don't go there, I don't feel accepted much less welcomed there, these gay men make me feel so sad when I withness their ignorance hence their insensitivity and hostility. They make me feel just tolerated.

I couldn't come up with a good reason why do it for THEM!
However, I did find out why should I go and protest the Badlands: I had to do it for ME and for the people who understand that an injury to one is an injury to all, my social awareness is far above putting aside the gay men's attitude that allows them to discriminate against an oppressed minority while they are an oppressed group as well.

NOTE: My generalization RE: Gay men attitudes towards MTFTGs allows for the, sadly, far in between exceptions.

I shall continue to condemn injustice wherever and whenever I see it.
