Guatemala Human Rights Report: Video & Slide Presentation.
Slides illustrating the impact of multinational “development” on the indigenous Mayan population in Guatemala will be presented by Dale Sorensen, Director, Marin Interfaith Task Force on the Americas. Just back from a human rights delegation to Guatemala, Ms. Sorensen’s discussion will highlight issues such as Canadian and US companies’ proposed gold mines, efforts to get compensation from the World Bank for the Chixoy Hydro-Electric dam/Rio Negro massacre, and progress being made to end impunity in Guatemala.
Included on the evening’s agenda is a screening of “Rainmakers,” a 25-minute documentary about one man’s survival of the Rio Negro massacre and his courageous campaign for the prosecution of former military officers.
The program will be held at The Redwoods Presbyterian Church, 110 Magnolia Avenue, Larkspur, 7:30 p.m., Thursday, July 28.It is a fundraiser for MITF’s Guatemala Accompaniment Project.
