what’s left of Northern California's Redwood forests. Berkeley’s Funky Nixons, a rocking band with honking sax, uses pointedly political and usually satirical lyrics to rally listeners to the causes of the day.
The electric group has been seen most recently at Impeach Bush rallies with some fresh songs on the subject. Not as irreverent but just as rocking, the Gary Gates Band also donates its music to community causes, playing original jam band music that inspired the San Francisco Bay
Guardian to compare it to Bob Marley and the Grateful Dead. Along with fellow activist rock band Day Late Fool’s Band, entertainment includes Ren & Skimpy, which play a unique blend of traditional American roots and rhythm that they call the California Country Blues. The evening’s
program includes films about the North Coast forests and an information table. Money raised goes to Bay Area Coalition for Headwaters (a project of the Ecology Center) and northern California Earth First!
Come stomp with us!
Ashkenaz is all-ages all the time, and also serves great beer and wine.
