Millions for the Puerto Rican Political Prisoners!!

History has shown us that the power of the people, active and in motion,
frees political prisoners. It was our united cry for freedom, international
support and consistent national work for more than three decades that
pressured President Carter to free the 4 Nationalist Political Prisoners in
1978 and President Clinton to grant clemency to 12 of the Puerto Rican
Political Prisoners in 1999. Today, however, three Puerto Rican Political
Prisoners, Haydee Beltran, Oscar Lopez Rivera, and Carlos Alberto Torres
remain in U.S. jails serving punitive and excessive sentences for fighting
for the independence and self-determination of Puerto Rico; a colony of the
United States since 1898. Adding your voice to the cry for freedom, justice
and human rights now can insure that our call will be heard once again and
will make an important contribution to obtaining justice for these freedom
fighters.

The ProLibertad Freedom Campaign makes a call to all people who love freedom
and justice to take up the challenge presented by “Millions for the Puerto
Rican Political Prisoners!” Campaign. Our goal is to re-energize the
campaign to obtain the unconditional release of the Puerto Rican Political
Prisoners by collecting one million signatures calling for their
unconditional release. In June of 2006, we will present the petitions
collected to the International Community during the annual hearings of the
United Nations Special Committee on De-colonization.

The ProLibertad Freedom Campaign is calling on all freedom and justice
loving people to support this campaign. We propose to identify 1000
organizations and individuals, nationally and internationally, to sponsor
the campaign and to commit to collecting signatures within their
organization, community, school, church, etc. Sponsoring organizations and
individuals will receive a packet with ProLibertad literature and 100
petitions; each petition has 10 spaces for signatures. By working with 1000
organizations, each taking 100 petitions at 10 signatures per page, we will
reach our goal of Millions for the Puerto Rican Political Prisoners.

This campaign will show the international community that the movement to
free the Puerto Rican Political is alive and thriving. This campaign will
allow us to educate, organize and mobilize people throughout the world. You
can help us make this just goal a reality! We call upon you to become an
active part of the “Millions for the Puerto Rican Political Prisoners”
Campaign!

Throughout the coming year ProLibertad will be organizing petition drives,
community forums and other events to promote the campaign. Organizations and
individuals will be invited to help in the collection of signatures, the
dissemination of literature and to support events. We will encourage
sponsoring organizations to hold their own activities and initiatives during
the year and will help to publicize, mobilize and provide support.

All sponsoring organizations and individuals who sign onto this campaign
will be listed in all the Millions for the Puerto Rican Political Prisoners
Campaign literature and media outreach.

us at Bronx 718-601-4751, Manhattan 212-927-9065, or New Jersey
