G8 Protest: OOPS! SF cops admit they "might" have arrested the wrong people

by pay attention
the sf chronicle reported today on their website that the police have stated that they may have arrested the wrong people.
Quotes are taken from Tuesday's SF Chronicle article entitled "Dispatch glitch left hurt officer without backup During G-8 protest, riot team was on a different frequency" on page B2 and online at:
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2005/07/12/BAGUDDMM971.DTL

Here is a quote showing the incompitence of the police at Friday night's G8 protest in relation to the arrests allegedly linked to the injurt of a self described police officer.
"Police investigators say the three people arrested may not have committed the actual assault."

The Chronicle reports that "The National Lawyers Guild is arranging for attorneys to represent the three people arrested, said Carlos Villarreal, executive director of the group's local branch.
He said the group wanted to make sure innocent people were not accused of the attack.
"What we heard is that they just kind of picked up people who were nearby, as opposed to those involved,'' Villarreal said. "
From what the NLG is reporting, the Police arrested protestors at random (a favorate tactic of SF Cops), as opposed to find those who were actually involved in the event.

The article states that none of the three arrested have actually been charged, but that they are being held on suspiscion of several crimes associated with assaulting a police officer.
"No charges have been filed in the case. Prosecutors said they had yet to receive the investigation against three suspects, Gabriel Meyers, Doritt Ernst and Cody Tarlow, arrested in connection with the attack. No charges have been filed in the case. Prosecutors said they had yet to receive the investigation against three suspects, Gabriel Meyers, Doritt Ernst and Cody Tarlow, arrested in connection with the attack.

Additionally, shortly after describing how the officer chased someone for several blocks in an attempt to arrest someone who threw a matress into the street. (and from other accounts of the incident, the officer was said to have charged into a crowd striking people with his baton). Regardless, Captain Kevin Cashman had the audacity to call the action unprovoked. "It was a vicious and unprovoked attack, and we need to find everyone who was responsible for it.''

Mayor Newsom has issued a statement that he will offer a large lump of cash to anyone who snitches on the actual person who hit the cop, reinforcing the idea that the police have arrested the wrong people.

Abuse of power--standard operating procedure. When in doubt, get even with anyone who 'fits the description' in the immediate area. 'Fits the description is cop code for prejudicial profiling.
by knocked on my ass
here's a little story about "profiling". that friday night at approx. 9:30 pm i was riding my bike down mission street-completely apart from what was going down at the time-as a matter of fact i was heading toward my home. the march was probably about 3 or 4 blocks or so in front of me. i was riding past a group of police moving a wooden plywood sign/barricade that had been placed in the middle of the road by some of the demonstrators. when the cops saw me they used the plywood like a battering ram putting their shoulders into it and running at me and knocking me clean off my bike. a few of them then half-assed kicked at me and then i was abruptly lifted back to my feet while they screamed things such as "get your fucking bike off the street" one cop in general kept yelling "fuck you jackass" at my face. I was shaken up and told them that I was just on my way home and that they had knocked me down on purpose, to which they laughed in my face while one of them said "proove it". good point, because i realized that there were no witnesses around, my sore-ass felt very much in danger when i realized noone was watching any of this go down. i got back on my bike and one more time told one of the cops that i was just heading home and that they knocked me down on purpose. his remark was-and i will never forget this-"get off of my foot before i break your fucking skull". these were his exact words. i guess he was acting like a typical pig but it still shocked the hell out of me none the less. unfortunately it doesn't end there because i was pissed, scared, and shaken, and knew that the only thing i could do to protect by 135lb ass was to say nothing more and simply ride away. i was about 30 feet from the cops riding away when this motorcycle cop rides right at me, guns his throttle slamming into my rear wheel once again sending by flying down onto the pavement. i got up picked up my bike and saw all these cops staring at me, i had this intense gut feeling that if i so much as just flipped them the bird the beat-down would commence, so i just jumped on my bike and got the fuck out of there. the only two mistakes i made were that i mistakenly assumed that i would not be looked on as part of the protest group AND i didn't get any badge numbers, which instinctively i should have done, but i just happended to be freaking out a little too much to think rationally which is a shame because as i mentioned there were no witnesses or legal people around. let this be a lesson to all!! just because you aren't part of an action if you fit some sort of fucking profile you can and will be targeted. maybe i pulled a rookie move but then again someone should be able to ride down the street without fear of this, yeah right you say. just one more thing, THIS ALL HAPPENED BEFORE THE COP WAS INJURED. what bittersweet irony a cop threatens to break my skull and shortly after a cop gets his busted...
by a TG person
okay I have consluded those cops are morons. I was there and I saw the dude hit the pavement. Did not appear anyone hit him. Thats why they can't find a single person to say yeah we saw such and such hit him. The fuckin guy fell. Serves him right running down dimly lit streets toward random people. And according to the public forum on this site those cops were looking for a fight.
The freakin SFPD needs to stop acting like weirdo's.

the police closest to the situation may have deliberately failed to respond, in order to allow protesters to get out of control

read this, very interesting:

consistent with what someone said about the rank and file trying to get rid of Fong

or, alternatively, incompetence, you can never rule that out

Common now people, Police officers are just woosies and wimps, they cant fight unless they have all their buddies behind them just like a common street gang.

If they were alone and walking down the street a Police person would fall to their kneesand cower if a threatening looking grandma walked their way.

and dont give me this Police will save you some day crap because they wont and probably never will save a single life.

No I dont hate Police, I just find like laughing at them.
