"Marriage, Anything Less Is Less Than Equal"
==================================================
We need your help! Our opponents are gatherings signatures for a June 2006 ballot initiative
that would amend our state constitution to deny marriage equality and eliminate domestic
partnership benefits. In 2000, we lost the vote on Proposition 22 that denied recognizing
out-of-state same-sex marriages, but we canÂ’t lose this time.
To win, we must ensure that our voting base makes it to the polls. The most effective way to do
this is through the voter id (identification) project where we go door-to-door to specifically
talk with registered voters. By addressing the issues face-to-face, many previously unaware
voters will begin to see that real peopleÂ’s rights are being denied.Â
The goal is to identify who our supportive voters are as well as to find the undecided voters
who will receive targeted messages from us over the next eleven months. The mistake other
campaigns have made is to wait too long before beginning this vital public outreach. If we
start now we can reach the people we need to reach in order to win this election next June and
turn the tide on the anti-gay extremists. Â
We need volunteers to go door-to-door for our first two sessions – Sunday, July 24 in Walnut
Creek and Sunday, August 7 in Berkeley/Oakland. Both sessions will go from 4-8pm. During the
first hour we will provide training so you know exactly what to say and how to handle questions.
Then there will be two hours of door-to-door visits with a partner on the opposite side of the
street, followed by a final hour debriefing, sharing a meal, and celebrating. Supporting this
effort will significantly boost our ability to win in June 2006.
Please contact Brian at brian [at] eqca.org to sign up. Also contact Brian if you cannot make either
of these dates, but are interested in joining a future canvass (or helping to do the advance set
up work we need to do to prepare for the canvass).Â
Please forward this message to others. Together we can win!
Note that our August chapter meeting has been cancelled so that we can put our energy into
making these canvasses as successful as possible. Thank you in advance for your efforts.
