Fresno Homecare Workers, Seniors, People with Disabilities Protest Gov's Attack on Homecare & Power-Grab Special Election

Local groups join push to protect consumers, caregivers against Schwarzenegger

When: Arrive at 10:00 a.m.; Media event at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 6th, 2005

Where: Assembly Room, Hugh M. Burns State Building, Fresno 2550 Mariposa Mall (between P and O Streets)

Parking: Fresno City Hall (Fresno & P) or Old Water Tower (Fresno & O)

As Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger demands harmful, budget-busting cuts in home care in Sacramento - and pushes a special election initiative to give him absolute power to override bipartisan support for home care in the State Legislature -- a group of local homecare providers, homecare clients, seniors and disability rights activists will join a growing statewide campaign urging legislators and the public to keep standing firm to protect homecare consumers and caregivers.

The Fresno gathering is one of many taking place around the state in the run up to a Home Care Banner Rally in Sacramento later this month. The Fresno homecare workers, seniors and people with disabilities will unveil the banner they will take to the July 20th Sacramento rally and show the TV and print advertising being used around the state. Please come and add your name to the banner this Wednesday morning, July 6.

Every year since he took power, Schwarzenegger has insisted on deep home care cuts that would slash caregivers' pay to the minimum wage level, and that would eliminate health benefits for them and their families. His proposals could end in-home care for hundreds of thousands of Californians, forcing them into institutions like nursing homes, which can be up to seven times more expensive for taxpayers.
