Picket to Support MUNI Drivers Free Speech
Please come out in support of Victor Grayson and Bari McGruder, two MUNI operators being sanctioned for speaking out against both the MTA and their Union (TWA Local 250-A).
In a SF Examiner article published Thursday, June 16, 2005 titled ‘Muni drivers threaten walkout at month's end,’ Victor and Bari spoke out to voice their anger and frustration with the union and to remind both the union and the public that the rank-and-file drivers do not support the fare hikes and service cuts. The rank-and-file of the union passed a resolution in May that stated their refusal to allow service cuts to be implemented and a commitment to an older schedule sign up without the service cuts. This is important to drivers since service cuts mean lost jobs for many drivers and longer, harder shifts for those who remain. It also obviously impacts us MUNI Riders who have to bear the brunt of worsening schedules, higher fares, crowded buses and lines being cut.
Please come out and support Bari and Victor and all of us who are trying to keep public transit affordable, accessible and safe for all to ride.
Please bring signs and banners supporting free speech, the rank-and-file, and a commitment to No Service Cuts, Fare Hikes and Layoffs.
Tuesday June 28th
Picket starts @ 9 AM
1508 Fillmore @ Geary in the Plaza.
Bari and Victor are being sanctioned inside in Suite 211.
