Hunters Point and the Muwekma Ohlone
300 years ago all that we see in San Francisco belonged to the Ohlone and it was pristine. Then the strangers came and stole the land. What is more they polluted the land. It is a joke when after polluting the air, the water, and the land - now they want to forget how they stole the land.
Hunters Point which is situated in the Southeast Sector of San Francisco was taken over using Eminent Domanin by the Navy in the late 1940s. For years from the late 1940s to the late 1950s the worst type of radiological experiments were carried out at Hunters Point Naval Shipyard.
African Americans came to work in the shipyards in the late 1940s and most in the 1950s. Today some African Americans think they were at the Shipyard at Hunters Point for thousands of years.
Today the Navy is using some sellout Blacks to divide the community.
Much before the Blacks the Chinese had an established fishing industry. They were Maltese, French, Germans, Latinos and other
all before the Blacks. But the fact to remember is that the Ohlone were there for thousands of years. The Ohlone used canoes made by tule to traverse the marshlands, the wetlands, the Bay and all of it was pristine.
It is a shame that the City and County of San Francisco and the Navy continue to forget to respect the Ohlone the First People of San Francisco:

You need to learn a little more, Francisco. The people who lived here before the Spanish came were the Ramaytush. They were one of several Costanoan peoples who lived around the bay. (Costanoan is a Spanish-derived word that means coastal people). The term "Ohlone" is a corruption of the Ramaytush village name "Oxlon", which was located on the western San Mateo County coastline. Almost all the Ramaytush lived in villages along the bay, from San Francisco south to near San Mateo. The other Costanoan languages were Karkin (near Carquinez Straight, which is named for them), Chochenyo (East Bay hills), Tamyen (Santa Clara Valley), Mutsun (San Juan Bautista and Pajaro River area), Awaswas (Santa Cruz area), Rumsen (Monterey down to Big Sur). Other Costanoan groups lived around Walnut Creek and Pleasanton, those these areas were mixed with Bay Miwok. Marin was Miwok, with Wintun located at the norhern end of the bay. The Indians who built and woked in and around Mission Dolores were not only the locals, but other people brought in from as far north as Sonoma, and south from the Central Coast. There is an excellent set of records at Mission Dolores, although the originals are at Mission Santa Barbara, should you choose to learn more. By the way, there are people trying to revive Mutsum and Rumsen from old records. If you want to learn about the languages, you might contact the JP Harrington Project at UC Davis.
While most of what you have written is some what correct the point that you fail to understand is that the Muwekma Ohlone were Federally Recognized and then removed from the Federal Register in 1927. In stating the names of the various major Ohlone groups you fail to understand that these tribes are at the mercy of a White government that first signed 18 treaties with California Tribes and then never kept them. The U.S. government has a system of Federal Recognition which is faulty. Over 60% of California Tribes are not Federally Recognized. I gain nothing by you stating the names of some clans and tribes. I am interested in empowering the First People and am not interested in knowing the languages they spoke ( that the White man did everything to kill) becuase I am fully cognizant of that fact. I am interested in knowing why the White men has double standards when it comes to ownership of land. I am amazed how so called educated White folks will state about some basic history and ignore the fundamental rights that every human being should enjoy. Up until 1924 it was fine to kill a Native American in California - what do you have to say about that Steve? What do you have to say about the way the Whites have destroyed the millions of acres of wetland, marshland, pristine rivers, lakes, and Mother Earth? What do you really know about the Muwekma Ohlone? What do you know about the Verona Band?

This person who is not contributing to the thread - is taking things out of context. As is typical he hides behind his key board and does not reveal his name. That is typical of cowards who are always have the closet mentality. Some times the TRUTH hurts. San Francisco has a population of about 750,000. Do you think the gays should have everything and anything they want and get it on a platter? What about the rights of others? On occassion Bevan Dufty and this creep is one great example - while fighting for the pseudo rights of one segment of the population - it is wrong to make the others from other segments suffer? We see this with housing, our health services, same sex marriage fiasco, jobs, health insurance, and so on.
Creep stick to the facts and to this thread and do not mix apples with oranges. If you have the balls reveal your name as I do. Let the sun shine and come out of the closet.

"His love for those perverts that have ruined our City is pathetic."
Sorry Francisco but I don't engage in dialogue with people who refer to gays as perverts.

Why is this crap on Indymedia?
It is always amazing how a comment is taken out of context.
I have thousands of good friends who are gays and lesbians. Thousands of them all over the world.
While I was at City Hall telling the Board of Supervisors that our children were dying Bevan Dufty was talking about saving Elephants in the Zoo - he spoke for over 30 minutes - about elephants and not one word about the children dying.
Then he is quick to talk about "queer" issues but not about children that are dying. In San Francisco while many queer folk contribute to our City's well being. Many do not. I suppose the same can be said of hetrosexual folks.
Here I am talking about environmental issues. I am NOT debating about queers. I do not mind debating about queers on another forum. Anon you hide behind your keyboard and cannot even have the guts to reveal your identity - that is if you have one.
Let us stick to environmental issues on this thread. I do not mind taking you on but not as long as you go by "anon" which could mean an "ass" as far as I am concerned. I do not need your fake "sorry" but the guts to stick to the point and address environmental issues.
The queer issues are already adversely impacting Quality of Life Issues in San Francisco as far as I am concerned. That also may be my subjective opinion which I am free to express and hold to. You fake ass Anon.
