The SHORTWAVE REPORT 6/10/05 ¡LISTEN GLOBALLY!

by Dan Roberts (outfarpress [at] saber.net)
A weekly 30 minute review of news and opinion, recorded from a shortwave radio. With times and freqs for listening at home. 2 files- broadcast and slow-modem streaming. Free to rebroadcast. Netherlands, Cuba, Spain, China, and Russia.
Dear Radio Friend,
The latest Shortwave Report (June 10) is up at the website
< http://www.outfarpress.com/outfarpress/shortwave.shtml >in both broadcast quality (13.2MB) and quickdownload or streaming form (3.3MB) (28:33)

This week's show features stories from Radio Netherlands, Radio Havana Cuba, Spanish National Radio, China Radio International, and the Voice of Russia.
From NETHERLANDS- Tony Blair and George Bush announced they will soon complete a debt-relief package for the poorest nations in Africa- an analysis of how far the relief really goes. The Organization of American States rejected a US proposal to strengthen democracy by intervening in political disputes- members feared the US wanted permission to strong-arm Cuba and Venezuela.
From CUBA- First, a Viewpoint about George Bush's proposal to the OAS. Amnesty International has pointed out the US policy of labeling as terrorists all Latin Americans who promote indigenous rights and oppose the FTAA.
From SPAIN- The Bolivian President again offered to resign in the face of weeks of indigenous protest and urged early elections. The military opened fire on protesters in the capital of Ethiopia, killing at least 72 and injuring many more.
From CHINA- Tony Blair said it is essential that the US get involved in the world dialogue about climate change. Some Italian ministers called to abandon the Euro as currency after the EU Constitution was defeated in referendums in France and the Netherlands. According to polls, the majority of Americans do not believe the invasion of Iraq has made them safer from terrorism. China responded to US criticism over its military buildup.
From RUSSIA- The global expenditure on arms and defense topped a trillion dollars last year. A commentary on increasing pressure to close down the US run Guantanamo prison camp.

All that plus times and frequencies for listening at home. It's free to rebroadcast, please notify me if you're airing it and haven't notified me in the last month, please mention the website if you only air a portion. If you just want to listen and have a slow connection, try the streaming version- lower sound quality but good enough and way easier if you don't have a high-speed internet connection. If streaming is a problem because of your slow connection, download the smaller file- it takes 20 minutes or less, and will play swell in any mp3 player application (RealPlayer, Winamp, Quicktime, iTunes, etc) you have on your computer.
This program will be aired on Friday evening at 7pm (PST) on KZYX/Z Philo CA, you might be able to stream via <http://www.kzyx.org >
There are several other streams that work better- < http://www.freakradio.org >Freak Radio Santa Cruz now streams this program on Friday at 9:00am (PST)
Also check out LavaLamp Radio (Japan)- <http://www.radiolavalamp.org>
streaming the SWR, check out the schedule.
And the Partytown streams are great and informative- <http://www.partytown.com/radi0
I hope you'll listen and air this if you're connected with a radio station. I am still wondering how to get financially compensated for the 25 hours I put into this program weekly- any ideas are appreciated. Any stations rebroadcasting this (or listeners) are welcome to donate for production costs. You can do so through the website. Many thanks to those that have donated! No Guilt! (maybe a little)
