We need your help TODAY for a Senate vote tomorrow (Thursday, June 9) to stop the confirmation of William Pryor, Jr., another terrible Bush nominee to the Court of Appeals.

Background:

Just hours ago, following a carefully scripted backroom deal, the U.S. Senate shirked its constitutional role to meaningfully advise and consent on judicial nominations and, on a 56-43 vote, confirmed the nomination of extremist Janice Rogers Brown to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. Brown's Neanderthal judicial record makes her absolutely unfit for service on the second highest court in the land.

This confirmation came about because of a lawless, strong-arm stunt, where Republicans threatened to "go nuclear" in order to confirm Brown and her ilk. This stunt provoked 14 panicked "moderates" to cave in and stop the filibusters of three extremist judges: Priscilla Owen and Janice Rogers Brown (both now confirmed for lifetime appointments) and William Pryor (to be voted on tomorrow).

We need your help to STOP THE PRYOR CONFIRMATION.

We know you are as outraged as we are about this agreement – a cave more than a compromise – foisted upon us by this gang of 14. These confirmation votes are an assault on all the rights for which we have fought so hard. Priscilla Owen was beholden to large corporations and has no respect for a young woman's right to reproductive choice. Brown wants to revoke the New Deal and return us to an era where employees have no rights and 17-year-old rape survivors are deemed to have sent "mixed signals."

Tomorrow William Pryor, Jr., who argued to overturn a key part of the Violence Against Women Act and has called abortion "an abomination," could be rewarded with a lifetime appointment to one of the highest courts of the land.

We cannot take heart that many Senators voted against the horrific nominations of Brown and Owen. Because, even if your Senator voted the right way – he or she clearly should have worked harder to make other Senators understand the dire consequences of their actions. We must ask them to work harder tomorrow, and try to move more votes to the "no" column.

Email messages must go into Senators' offices immediately. A confirmation vote on Pryor vote is expected tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon.

The right wing is paving the way for a Supreme Court battle, and Senators who ought to know better are letting them. We must show them that we will fight for our rights. There is no choice in this war, and NOW is counting on you to weigh in with both of your senators TODAY.
