Despite massive budget shortfalls and poll after poll showing that Californians want cuts to prison spending and favor rehabilitation over more prisons, California opened its 33rd state prison today: the $750 million boondoggle, Delano II. At the same time, we are closing schools, hospitals and libraries. Come protest the opening of the Delano II and the closing of public institution that truly build safe communities. Californians United for a Responsible Budget (CURB) held the "Reverse Ribbon Cutting" event in front of the Fresno County Office of Education on Van Ness Ave. The event was sponsored by CURB. CURB is a statewide coalition of 40 organizations that seeks to curb prison spending by reducing the number of people in prison and the number of prisons.
