The Board of Library Trustees is putting on a "Community" Forum on Radio Frequency Tracking Devices. However they have made very little attempt to have the public know anything about what is going on at all.
Regular library users and Berkeley residents are organizing to let the community know what is going on and to have this RFID taken out of our libraries. We want the contract cancelled with Checkpoint Systems.
This new technology is not only very expensive and bought on a loan through our city government! that will have a high interest rate on top of the $650,000 initial cost, but will have high maintenance costs as well. It is a very new and almost untried technology that is replacing a much less invasive technology that was already in place.
The time is not yet confirmed, but I will update this notice when it is!
Please show up and learn what we are up against and what we can do about it.
