Pics from Palo Alto RTS

by One Gear
On Friday, May 20th, A reclaim the streets was held in downtown Palo Alto on University Avenue. The party lasted about an hour before people were dispersed by 3(yes, 3) different police forces from different cities working together. The entire downtown area was shut down to incoming traffic, and only a few arrests were made. Below are photos from the event.
Pic 1 shows cops trying to clear a dumpster from the street.
Pic 2 shows the newspaper dispensers which were used as blockades.
Pic 3 shows the party on University Ave.
Pic 4 shows some property destruction(property enhancement?) that occured at an American Express storefront.

This action was in all, a success. Resist - Think - Create.

on a whole, i felt that R.T.S. Palo Alto was great. I personally had never been to one myself & thought it was sucsessfull. My heart/thoughts go out to those that were abused or arrested. The cops were able to pigeon in people & express their violence, but we were able to experss ourselves with instant outreach. People joined us, danced, celebrated, the fact that our streets belong to the people. An old couple demonstrated with us, defended us/themselves, & played in the streets with us. This was good! Power to tha' people!
Let's do it again Palo Alto. keep the sprit up!

"Our cities are planned to keep us content, isolated, and passified..."

The idea that people's lives are controlled via the built environment is a cliched argument. Yes in certain cases one can argue that city planning has had a negative impact on the homeless, poor folks, and people of color, but to argue that all individuals and communities is problematic.

What would our cities look like with "the community" in mind? If interested, I recommend checking out New Urbanism (see Celebration and Seaside, FL). Can you really design community?

On offer here eventually will be a good selection of the most important pieces of writing on the various subjects in the philosophy of Determinism and Freedom. The name of this philosophy might have been Determinism and Free Will, since in this context 'free will' is often used generally to mean the same as 'freedom'. In fact there is such a philosophical custom. It is better, however, despite that disadvantage, to use the term 'free will' in a particular way, for a particular kind of freedom -- for one species included in the genus 'freedom'. This is what is also called origination. The subjects in the philosophy of Determinism and Freedom include the nature of causation, the different kind of freedom that is voluntariness rather than free will or orgination, and so on.

for you maybe. for me it is promblematic to igonore the systemic and planned failures of our commercial landscapes of alienation.

We don't have to have our "communities" designed top down by Disney corps or especially any specialists. Real community comes bottom up and is inspired and realized by those who belong to them!

To those who participated: Truly inspiring!
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
