INSIDE IRAQ: THE UNTOLD STORIES’ film premiere in San Francisco
Armed only with a video camera, a press pass made at Kinko’s, and a single name written on a crumpled up piece of paper; I cashed in airline miles and flew to Amman, Jordan where I entered Iraq as a freelance journalist on assignment for KATU-ABC TV in Portland, Oregon.
I traveled through the country for two months with only a local guide, chronicling the life of the Iraqi people and the US military. I filmed unique stories the national media ignores: gun markets, bomb shelters, mine fields, hospitals, schools, and villages showing the reality of life in Iraq beyond the media spin.
While embedded with the US military, I actually joined a combat unit and qualified as a gunner on an Abrams tank and went out on live-fire night patrols along the Syrian border to gain a better understanding of what it’s like to be a soldier in combat.
Inside Iraq: The Untold Stories is a feature length (84 minutes) documentary film showing a balanced look behind the scenes in Iraq.
It begins it’s San Francisco premiere from May 20th to May 26th with showings at 1, 4, 7, and 9:30pm daily at Regal’s Galaxy Theater at 1285 Sutter Street.
As the Director, I will be at every showing Friday through Sunday to introduce the film, meet the audience and answer questions. I anticipate Inside Iraq: The Untold Stories will engage San Francisco audiences and help continue the important discussion on U.S. policies in Iraq.
This film had a very successful one-month run in Portland with many sellouts and extensive press coverage. It has been shown over 122 times at private events at colleges and performing arts centers in 25 states around the US since October 2004.
