Boycott 'Palindromes' and Todd Solondz All Together!!!
Critical analysis and promotion of boycott for newly released film Palindromes, by director Todd Solondz.
I was told by a rather casual acquaintance that the newly released film, Palindromes, by director Todd Solondz, was a must see for abortion activists and the like. I just arrived home after walking out on the film being shown at Landmark theater in Berkeley with the most senseless rage I've felt since January 22 when all the anti's came to SF to demonstrate. This film and its complex series of issues cloaked in Solondz's infamous black humor used to make the viewer associate what is proposed as trite, excusable and laughable, does not stop on this level with this film. Without ranting for too long (feel free to email me if you want more hot air), I'd like to simply address the one issue I felt was detrimental---the abortion rights issue. Solondz didn't do his research before plunging into approximately scene 2 with the tragic botched abortion/hysterectomy of pre-teen actress. Viewers are left with sensitive misinformation after watching this scene that re-enforces blatant guilt, shame and fear tactics placed on women for excercizing their rights to terminate a pregnancy. Just to clear the air: 1) ABORTION TECHNOLOGY TODAY WOULD NEVER RESULT IN A "NECESSARY HYSTERECTOMY", and 2) THE SEX OF A FETUS CANNOT BE DETERMINED UNTIL THE WOMAN IS OBSERVABLY PREGNANT, much further along in a pregnancy than the aforementioned actress in this scene is presumed to be. I could go on forever but will digress here. I'd love to hear feedback, etc. ~Anna~
