Counter-recruiter Coalition Forms
May 7th marks the beginning of a coalition of anti-war activists in Fresno County.
An historic first meeting of a counter-recruiting coalition in Fresno County was held on Saturday, May 7th at the Fresno Center for Nonviolence. Hosted by Peace Fresno and organized by its vice-president, Ken Hudson, the event was attended by several persons - including the co-chair of the Fresno County Peace and Freedom Party and two faculty members of Fresno City College.
Prompted by the threatened arrest of anti-recruitment pamphleteers organized by the Peace and Freedom Party at Fresno City College's job fair on April 13th, efforts are now underway to create a unified strategy to reach as many high school and college students as possible.
Starting with a counter-recruitment information night on May 17th and proceeding forward with plans to offer assistance and information to students in the coming school year, the coalition hopes to reach as many students and parents as possible. In the first weeks of the fall semester, emphasis will be placed on reminding and advising students of the opt-out opportunities to keep the military and its recruiters from obtaining their names and personal information from school administration.
