1. Please Help Outlaw Animal Slaughter at California Schools

We need your help to ensure passage of an important bill. AB 1685, by Assemblyman Johan Klehs, would do two things: end the slaughter of any animal on school property and permit students the opportunity to opt-out of certain portions of the agricultural class. Slaughtering animals in school desensitizes children, who have a natural affinity for animals and sends them the message that it is okay to torture animals.

Dances With Films 2005

Heading into its 8th year, Dances With Films celebrates the best that the independent film scene has to offer. In 2001, Tribe of Heart's first film, The Witness, had its Los Angeles debut at Dances With Films.

"I wanted to bring back festival alumni Jenny Stein and James LaVeck because their films share beautiful stories about how deeply we're all interconnected," said Festival co-founder Leslee Scallon, who selected Peaceable Kingdom from amongst 1,400 submissions.
But Scallon also has a more personal reason for including the film. "As someone who grew up on a ranch, and now as a new mother, I'm acutely aware of the importance of kindness to both people and animals," she said. "We're all part of the same world."
