The Peace Studies Student Association, UC Berkeley’s Center for African Studies and Bears for UNICEF invite you to a free event featuring a screening of Uganda’s Invisible Children.
Invisible Children bears witness to the “night commuters” of Northern Uganda, children who at the end of every day walk from surrounding villages into the town of Gulu to hide in basements, hospitals and churches to escape kidnapping from the Lord’s Resistance Army. In the 18 year-old fight between the LRA and the Ugandan government over 20,000 children have been abducted and taken as child soldiers. On Tuesday come discover the child-victims of a struggle which has received almost zero attention here in the United States and find out what you can do to help.
Featured speakers:
Kristen Cheney PhD, author of, “‘Our Children Have Only Known War’: Children’s Experiences and the Uses of Childhood in Northern Uganda.”
Herb Behrstock, former Chief Officer with United Nations Development Program
