Join IDEX for a special showing of the movie Amandla! A Revolution in Four-Part Harmony. A benefit for International Development Exchange’s Africa Program, the event will feature a conversation with special guest John Preiskel, co-producer of the film, and a pre-film appetizer and drink reception.
Winner of the Audience Award and Freedom of Expression Award at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival, Amandla! tells the story of black South African freedom music and reveals the central role it played in the long battle against apartheid. Nine years in the making, this documentary was shot in South Africa and features interviews with a diverse range of individuals who candidly share their experience of struggle and song.
Co-sponsored by the Red Vic Movie House, Bissap Baobab Restaurant, Lagunitas Brewing Company, Thirsty Bear Brewing Company,and Lions Gate Films.
$15-50 sliding scale, includes reception with delicious African appetizers from Bissap Baobab, draught beer from Thirsty Bear Brewing, bottled beer by Lagunitas, and non-
alcoholic beverages.
