This topic has particular urgency as many Patriot Act provisions of the Patriot Act are set to expire at the end of this year. The government is trying to renew and expand the Act.

Jeffrey Mittman is PATRIOT Act campaign coordinator for the Northern California Affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union. An attorney active in civil liberties issues and politics for over 20 years, Jeffrey began as a volunteer with the ACLU after serving as an infantry officer in the US Army. He recently was a panelist in the organizing conference “From Attica to Abu Ghraib” in Berkeley, sponsored by the International Human Rights Initiative.
