If you live in Clovis, your voice is desperately needed.
Last Saturday, your mayor, Nathan Magsig, attened the Traditional Values Coalition rally, speaking against marriage equality. Since that time, some of us have contacted his office, and little by little his tune is changing. At first, he said, yes, he was there, and he had a right to be. Now he's saying he didn't realize the true purpose of the rally and he supports civil equality for all. (Sounds like double talk to me.) We need to continue to send the message that if he sides with the radical rightwingers, he will continue to be uncomfortable.
There are two ways you can help, whether you're from Clovis or not, although residents natuarrly have a bit more impact.
First, email, wirte or call his office and express your disappointment in his attendance at this rally.
Second, attend the Clovis City Council Meeting on Monday night at 7pm, and during public comment time, let them all know that his presence among the haters was unwelcome.
More info is available by contacting fresnolgbtq-owner [at] yahoogroups.com or tulare [at] marriageequalityca.org
Please consider stepping outside your comfort zone for just a few minutes this week. It could make a world of difference if Valley leaders learn that sucking up the religious wrong is no way to build a career in politics.
