Protest against the impeachment of Andrés Manuel López Obrador
More than one hundred residents of the San Francisco Bay Area protested today in solidarity with the worldwide demonstrations in support of Mexico City's major, Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
UC Davis, UC Berkeley and Stanford students, with the company of local organizations such as Centro Azteca de Información and representatives of AFL/CIO local 790, faimilies of Mexican origin and diverse US citizens rallied peacefully along the piers of San Francisco. Amongst the attendants to the protest was a "calavera" with a sign stating that "Mexican democracy is an endangered species".
Some of the signs read "Mexico: Democracy in Danger" and "Fox, the world is watching".
An emotional stop in front of the statue of Mohatma Gandhi emphasized the peaceful nature of the protests carried out in Mexico City, San Francisco and other places of the world, such as Barcelona, Tolouse, Boston and Sydney. More than a million people protested in Mexico City alone.
The protest ended in the aquatic park, where pictures were taken with the Golden Gate bridge as a backdrop, and different groups proclaimed an alliance to increment pressure onto the Mexican government throughout the state of California.
Local radio and TV stations covered the event.
