Pacifica's Democracy Now makes profit from Exxonmobil, Amazon.com
The financial influence of oil giant Exxonmobil and other large corporations extends to Pacifica Radio's Amy Goodman. Amazon.com gift preceeded online marketing link at Democracy Now website.
Self-described independent journalist Amy Goodman's Democracy Now Productions profited from Exxonmobil and Amazon.com in 2003, according to tax records posted at Guidestar. The records show DN Productions received gifts of more than $5,000 of Exxonmobil stock and more than $50,000 of Amazon.com stock from an unnamed donor. After the Amazon.com gift, DN added a direct link to the online department store to the Democracy Now website, which claims to have no ties to corporations or advertisers. The stock gifts were made around the same time Goodman signed a book deal with Hyperion Books, which is owned by corporate giant Disney.
