Post Carbon Institute
Learning to Live in a Low-Energy World

Based on the Institute's research and studying the research of others, we have come to the conclusion that there is no panacea to get us out of the energy and ecological predicaments that human civilization faces.

At Bay Area Peak Oil meetings, we exchange information with each other, and to educate our friends and neighbors about the urgency of this crisis. Drop your fear! Join us in making our community one that will adapt, survive & prosper in a Post-Carbon economy.

This month:

- David Room, will lead the Personal Footprint and Post Carbon Challenge Workshop

- Cal Simone, guest speaker, will give a talk on consumerism at the end of the age of oil, followed by Q & A

- Brainstorming session on organizing the group and forming a steering committee.

Personal Footprint and Post Carbon Challenge Workshop - led by David Room

Explore how we as a group may reduce our personal energy and ecological footprints and also how we might as a group develop an optional "post carbon challenge" or agreement that will reduce our energy consumption. We will develop the framework of an agreement for reducing personal energy and simplifying their lives, and the accompanying processes that will support their efforts.  The resulting agreement is optional and encouraged, flexible, and milestones are celebrated, and can serve as “challenge” for members of the group and for the community.

David Room is the Bay area communications director for Post Carbon.

Talk: Consumerism at the End of the Oil Age - Cal Simone

Americans are fixated on consumption, be it material possessions, adrenaline rushes, or the co-opting of our spirit.  But how much of that fixation is inducted by the psyche of America as an institution? What's really going in the national psyche that would have us consume without reasonable limits?  How does this relate to the end of the age of oil, and what are our choices?

Cal Simone is a Jungian scholar, teacher, coach, and writer who has dedicated his life to bringing what's in the collective unconscious to consciousness.  He is writing a book on the current energetic state and trends of the American collective psyche.
