AgJOBS VOTE POSSIBLE IN SENATE ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 13

by NWFM
On Wednesday afternoon, April 13, Senator Larry Craig and Sen. Edward Kennedy are likely to offer the AgJOBS farmworker immigration bill, S.359, as an amendment to the pending supplemental appropriations bill
Dear Farm Worker Supporter,

We've all done great work. This is a moment that farmworker advocates have been waiting for. We must seize this moment.

On Wednesday afternoon, April 13, Senator Larry Craig and Sen. Edward Kennedy are likely to offer the AgJOBS farmworker immigration bill, S.359, as an amendment to the pending supplemental appropriations bill. A Senate vote on AgJOBS may occur on Wednesday afternoon or evening. This schedule is not guaranteed. But we must act now. (A summary of AgJOBS is at http://www.nfwm.org)

Please contact your Senators by early Wednesday afternoon (contact information is below) and tell them:

1. Please vote FOR the Craig-Kennedy farmworker immigration amendment to the supplemental appropriations bill that is being debated today. The amendment is the same as the Agricultural Job Opportunities, Benefits and Security Act of 2005, also known as "AgJOBS."

2. Please vote AGAINST any proposed amendments that Sen. Craig and Sen. Kennedy do not agree to. Sen. Feinstein may offer an amendment that is inconsistent with the AgJOBS compromise. If so, please oppose it.

3. Please OPPOSE Senator Chambliss's substitute amendment. It would create a harsh guestworker program that would be unfair to workers and bad for the nation. The AgJOBS bill is a product of bipartisan compromise and should be supported.

Senate Fax numbers are below. Or call the Capitol Switchboard and ask for your Senator's Office: 202-224-3121. Additional contact information for your Senator is available at http://www.Senate.gov

It took more than three years for the United Farm Workers and national grower groups to negotiate the AgJobs bill, allowing undocumented farm workers to earn the legal right to permanently stay in this country by continuing to work in agriculture. AgJobs is not amnesty; it is hard-earned legalization.

We can win this one for farmworkers!! But victory does not come without struggle. Please help.
