Guest Speakers from Argentina In San Francisco and Oakland
Cecilia Sainz:
Cecilia is a journalist by training, and her work over the last few
years has focused on the recovered factory movement and other
responses to the financial crisis of 2001. She was a lead field
analyst for "The Take" with Avi Lewis and Naomi Klein. She has
visited dozens of recovered, cooperative factories, interviewed
countless workers, and fought for the success of the workers in
efforts ranging from analyzing business plans to making Molotov
cocktails. She is currently a member of The Working World which
seeks to sustain the cooperative movement in Argentina. Ceclia is
very familiar both with the world abroad and the very local struggles
in Buenos Aires, and her keen perceptions are certain to provide
fascinating insight of the life and struggle of workers in Argentina.
Lalo Paret:
Lalo grew up in one of most infamous slums outside of Buenos Aires.
Following the example of his mother, Lalo soon became a local leader,
helping not only to fight for the rights of his community but also to
organize its members into practical economic groups. After the
financial crisis of 2001, Lalo became a key member of the "Movement
of Recovered Factories" and was the organizer of countless factory
take overs and their subsequent transformation into successful
businesses. Lalo quickly became a trusted source for "The Take", and
he can be seen on film organizing the Forja factory with the words
"Occupy, resist, and produce." He is currently a member of The
Working World which seeks to sustain the cooperative movement in
Argentina.
ABOUT THE FILM:
This is the story of working people who decide to fight back against a corrupt and brutal system. Against the backdrop of Argentina's historic economic collapse, the film chronicles the extraordinary story of workers and activists who take back their bankrupted businesses, and run them without bosses. To reclaim their lives and their dignity, they first have to face down the former owners, the trigger-happy police, and, in the midst of national elections, the prospect of a repressive government returning to power!

The National Movement of Factories Recovered by the Workers wants to leave in its total opposition documentary to "The Take" of Avi Lewis and Naomi clear Klein
From the National Movement of Factories Recovered by the Workers we want to make our total opposition to the documentary one public that it is being released in Argentina: “the TAKING”, produced and directed by Canadian the Naomi Klein and Avi Lewis. By the acquired experience participating actively in the recovery, put into operation and consolidation of more than 60 factories in all the country.
Toma is a film that is promoted like “a documentary one which it narrates the fight of the factories recovered by his workers”, but in fact is a clear testimony of the illegal character who can get to have some conflicts, which can be very dangerous for all the set of the recovered factories that we are not ourselves represented by documentary saying.
Or from the title we can see one of the reasons for which the workers who are in their factory later are evacuated or live in state of permanent tension requesting that that moment never arrives.
To occupy or to take a space forms the usurpation crime, which inevitably before the denunciation of the owner of the place, forces to the judge or public prosecutor to free an order of evacuation against the workers. Only that it avoids the evacuation is the law of expropriation, created by this Movement of Recovered Factories.
We are in agreement with which there is to change the legislation – we have elaborated a project of reform of the law of aids and bankruptcies -, but meanwhile is necessary to lay way between the present legal and judicial norms. Article 14 bis of the National Constitution protects the workers to remain in the jobs exerting the right to strike.
We were sorry that it is wanted to use the recovery of factories for an internacionalist political action within the antiglobalizadora fight of classes with a clear Marxist ideological shade and, from this glance of dialectic materialism, is seen all this process.
From this Movement we agree neither with the Title the TAKING, nor with the slogan TO OCCUPY, TO RESIST and TO PRODUCE, nor with the script of the film.
Nothing had to do the political situation so that a group of workers, as they were it the pioneers of factory GIP at the moment Cooperative METAL limited liability company of Work Union and Force that in August of year 2000, began this process to recover the work from Avellaneda.
Single the firm conviction was needed to feel like creators of its own destiny and the collaboration of the Municipal and Provincial State looked for, through the councilmen, the Intendant, the provincial deputies and senators next to the governor of the Province of Buenos Aires who made the political decision to help the workers so that he leaves the first Law Expropriation the 28 of December of 2000.
From this Movement we are thanked for to all the officials government of all the Argentine territory so that beyond its political color and of the situation of emergency they are collaborated with the recovery of the factories.
We felt that we needed the respect to all the Argentineans and to the workers of the factories recovered in individual because they have mixed the political process and devacle economic with our effort.
It is wanted to put to all the political leadership in the same stock market, to the judges and the President of the Nation Argentina Dr Néstor Kirchner, showing because the Argentineans we are idiot because mainly they chose it so that it administers the destinies of our country; they try to show that everything is going to follow equal so that the president signed an agreement with the F.M.I, not to increase the state of cessation of payments.
We know that the President of all the Argentineans has instructed the National civil employees so that they support the Cooperatives of Work that recovered factories in all the country.
Thus also most of the judges of the Argentine Republic who collaborate actively within the normative frame to reopen the factories.
Without doubt Adela Doctor Fernandez is one of them like the Dra. Matilde Ballerini, the Dr Atilio Gonzalez, Dr Germa’n Páez Chestnut grove, Dr Juan Manuel Gutiérrez Hair, the Dr Fernando Ottolenghi, Dra. Norm I gave Notto, the Dr Angel Oscar Rooms, the Dr Juan Jose Dieuziede, Dr Juan Robert Gariboto, the Dra. Julia Villanueva, of Cordova the Dra. Beatriz Mansilla de Mosquera. Single to name to some of the judges who acted in aids or bankruptcies.
The documentary one has serious errors of diagnosis of the social reality Argentina.
They want to show Adela Doctor Fernandez of the National Court of 1º Instance in Commercial Nº 18 in a hard position against the Workers and the reality is all the opposite.
Besides to commit a serious crime to record a conversation in the office of the judge next to the secretary and to the sindicatura, in a hearing. This it is another fraudulent act that repudiamos absolutely.
It has supported to the workers of Forge San Martín and to others like the Yaguané refrigerator and those of the Sanchez Gas S.A. at the moment COOTRAGAS, who have the precarious possession granted by this same Judge.
Entering histories that count, personage ERNESTO “LALO” PARET was expelled from the factory Forge San Martín by the workers reunited in Assembly because this gentleman wanted to them to bring the managers of the ex- Zanello at the moment PAUNI S.A. to gerenciar the factory, said to them that the workers are in charge to work that they were going to receive a sueldito and they would take care of the administration and the commercialization.
This repeated in other two opportunities through another industralist and after the University of San Martín the one that was put to administer a credit of $ 100,000 that supposedly was for the factory, but that in fact was not it, thing that also rejected the workers next to the expulsion of this “personage” who never was worker of Forge San Martín.
The MNFRT is the initiator of this process that already has been four years, exist other that want it to distort to satiate personal hunger, others, to satiate political interests.
It needs to the respect to the traditions and history of the Argentineans.
Here we are a town that has lived great fights by the National Liberation, we did not need that the foreign intellectuals come to say to us to whom we must vote or that we must do or if we made it bad.
The Argentine town can be that it does not know to that to vote but knows well to who not to vote. By example to the political parties with ideologies that impel the speech that you command to traverse of this documentary one, as they are it the one to occupy the factories, to impose the fight of classes for which the factories are Under Working Control; those parties did not surpass 2% of the votes at national level in the last election.
We have the example of the workers of the Brukman textile who were oriented by slogans: To occupy, To resist and Producir or Brukman Under Working Control. The result is the violent evacuation of the 18 of April and the repression of 2l, soon was 8 months in the carp until the strategy changed and the 29 of triumphant December returned to their factory and today they find a in the heat of job.
As the documentary one leaves little on the basis of which the companions in the recovery live on the factories because unexpectedly he introduces the national elections, makes a documentary politician who does not reflect in anything that great desafio to put to work the factories within the State of Right and the National Constitution.
In addition within the distortion ex- Ghelco is added that they present/display the Cooperative of Limited Vieytes Work, as if it was Under Working Control and the reality is that it is a Cooperative of Work, the same happens with: Forge San Martín, Coopertiva de Trabajo 18 of December, (ex- Brukman) and the Cooperative of United Naval Work Shipyard, (ex- Sanym S.A..)
The only factory Under Working Control is Zanón de Neuquén and she is not representative of than 100 factories recovered the more through Cooperatives of Work.
The Working Control is added to I raise theoretician of the estatización, also postulated by ample sectors of the left parties, for that reason it must be that the only deputy who speaks is Luis creative Zamora of (MAS) the Movement to the Socialism and now of Self-determination and Freedom, we never saw it recovering factories.
The National Movement of Factories Recovered by the Workers wants to leave in its total opposition to documentary the Taking of Avi Lewis and Naomi clear Klein by all the exposed one.
Integral cooperatives of Work of the Movement: Naval union and Force (Avellaneda), Lavalan (Avellaneda), San Carlos (Avellaneda), Shipyard Unidos(Avellaneda), the Union (Avellaneda), Fénix (Lanús), Ex- Textile San Remo (Lanús), Copacinox (Lanús), the Union of Workers (Lanús), To ally (Lanús), Hospital of Llavallol (Hills of Zamora), Chemistry of the Sur(Berazategui), DUC (Berazategui), Evaquil (Quilmes), Vieytes (Capital Federal), the New Hope – Grissinopoli- (Capital Federal), the Garden of Palermo (Capital Federal), Diogenes Taborda (Capital Federal), 18 of December – ex- Brukman- (Capital Federal), Baseport (Capital Federal), Doormen (Capital Federal), Israelite Hospital (Capital Federal), End Sands (Capital Federal), the Components (Vicente Lopez), M. V. H. (Vicente Lopez), Argentina New Era – CANE- (Vicente Lo’pez), 2 of December – Coventry- (San Martín), San jOse Furniture (San Martín), Fields (San Martín), Forge San Martín (San Martín), Electro Union – ex- Electrozyk- (San Martín), Bird-raising Colored person (Brown), Argypaz (Jose C. Paz), San Justo (the Slaughter), Smelting L.B. – The Baskonia- (The Slaughter), Palmar (The Slaughter), The Slaughter (The Slaughter), The New Mitre (The Slaughter), COO. TRA. FRI. ALREADY. – Frigorifico Yaguané – (the Slaughter), Cintoplom (Three of February), Cootragas (San Miguel), Sanitary Porcelain the Falklands Argentinas(Cerámicas Zanón – Motta – the Argentine Falklands), the Falklands (the Argentine Falklands), Union Platense Wastebasket (the Silver), Vermicelli the Record (Junin), Olavarría (Olavarria), 8 of March (Caruhé), the Press – Daily Commerce and Justice (Cordova), To communicate (Cordova), Flexicoop (Cordova), Transport Put (Current), Union of Sanluiseños Workers – Gatic- (Current), J. J. Go’mez – Fricader- (Negro River), Bodies DIC (Rosario).

International Workers Day event. See the movie - The Take .
In the wake of Argentina’s spectacular economic collapse in 2001, Latin America’s most prosperous middle class finds itself in a ghost town of abandoned factories and mass unemployment. In suburban Buenos Aires, thirty unemployed auto-parts workers walk into their idle factory, roll out sleeping mats and refuse to leave. All they want is to re-start the silent machines. But this simple act —the take —has the power to turn the globalization debate on its head.
Director/producer Avi Lewis (Counterspin) and writer/producer and renowned author Naomi Klein (No Logo) take viewers inside the lives of ordinary visionaries, as they reclaim their work, their dignity and their democracy.
This movie will be shown at the Hudson Garden Collective Big Barn (Park diagonally at 4230 N Arthur & 4247 N Thorne Ave, N of Ashlan, btw. Palm & Fruit) in Fresno. Admission: Bring food or drink to share.
Also, Jan Slagter will speak about her experience with Argentina workers who re-opened their factories after the “owners” shut them down.
This event is sponsored by The Community Alliance newspaper. For more information call (559) 226-0477.
