TOWN HALL ON SOCIAL SECURITY

Seniors, consumers, and workers are coming together to learn the facts and plan how to protect the Social Security system. Participants will find out which legislators have signed a pledge to stand against privatization, and which legislators are taking the lead in this struggle. Speakers will lay out a strategy to build opposition to privatization. Information about Governor Schwarzenegger’s proposal to privatize California’s public employee retirement systems, and consumer information on MediCare drug benefits will also be discussed.

WHO: This rally is being sponsored by the California Alliance for Retired Americans (CARA), the Central Labor Council of Alameda County, the Federation of Retired Union Members (FORUM) – Alameda County, the Gray Panthers, and many Alameda County labor, senior, community organizations and religious congregations. It is one of a dozen town hall meetings being sponsored around the State by CARA to urge Representatives to sign a Pledge to Oppose Social Security Privatization.
