WRITE YOUR CALIFORNIA STATE REPRESENTATIVES AND ASK
THEM TO SUPPORT AB 1147, THE INDUSTRIAL HEMP FARMING ACT

Assembly bill 1147, The Industrial Hemp Farming Act, was introduced
by Assemblyman Mark Leno on February 23rd. If passed, AB 1147 would
give California farmers the right to apply for a state license to grow
low-THC varieties of hemp. The law would be similar to regulations on
industrial hemp in other countries such as Canada and the European
Union. The University of California would also conduct research on
industrial hemp. Vote Hemp worked with Asssemblymember Leno on the
introduction of AB 1147 and has hired a lobbyist to help get AB 1147
passed.

This is the second time an industrial hemp bill has been introduced
in the California legislature. In 2002, a hemp research bill (AB 388)
passed both the Assembly and Senate only to be vetoed by then Gov.
Gray Davis.

Knowing that industrial hemp is grown more than 30 countries around
the world, including his own Austria, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger
should have a more worldly perspective on this profitable crop. Let's
work to send an industrial hemp bill to Schwarzenegger's desk this year
by asking our state representatives to support Assemblyman Mark
Leno's industrial hemp farming act, AB 1147.

Vote Hemp is a non-profit advocacy group working to educate the public
and enact laws which would allow U.S. farmers to grow hemp.

We also need your help in covering costs for this major effort to
secure passage of AB 1147 which could be as much as $11,000 over six
months. Fortunately, AlpSnack (http://www.Alpsnack.com) has
generously offered to match dollar for dollar donations for this
effort.
Every dollar you give over the next six months is actually worth two!
