Oakland Teacher's Contract Update
The OEA, the Oakland teacher's union, has had two advisory votes on ratification of a tentative contract agreement between the OEA bargaining team and with the school district. The votes were 13-0 by the union's Executive Board and 96-8 by the rep. council, both against ratification. On April 27, the general membership will vote for or against ratification.

And Oakland manages to graduate 52% of it's high school students. Maybe they need some new teachers.
Steve-- Let's see, the urban conditions that Oakland teachers work under are their own fault. I never would have guessed.
And actually Oakland gets new teachers all the time because the conditions are so bad (and getting a lot worse under the new contract) that turnover is frequent. If you want higher graduation rates then create conditions that attract a stable teacher base. Its the market as business people say.
