What: A broad coalition of environmental organizations will join
local and
state political leaders on the shores of the Pacific Ocean to protest a
federal omnibus energy bill and a US House Resources Committee bill
called
SEACOR (State Enhanced Authority for Coastal and Offshore Resources
Act).
The two measures would undermine the longstanding offshore oil drilling
moratorium that exists off the coasts of California, Washington,
Oregon, and
other US coastal states. Speaker pro Tem Leland Yee will also announce
Assembly Joint Resolution 14, which calls for a continuation of the
federal
offshore leasing moratorium and officially affirms California's
opposition
to the damaging coastal provisions of the SEACOR bill.
