3/21: CA Bill Banning Drug Use In Presence of Kids Amended

by DPFCA
Assemblyman Greg Aghazarian amended his bill AB 253 making it felony child abuse for parents to use drugs in the presence of their children after the bill failed the Public Safety Committee 2-4.
Sacramento - Assemblyman Greg Aghazarian amended his bill AB 253 making it felony child abuse for parents to use drugs in the presence of their children after the bill failed the Public Safety Committee 2-4.
The amended version of AB 253 restricts the bill to the following specific drugs: cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, LSD and MDMA. DPFCA regards the new bill as every bit as objectionable as the old one, especially insofar as it lumps psychedelics along with "hard" drugs.
Opponents should make their views known to the Public Safety Committee, including: Chair, Mark Leno (D-SF); Merv Dymally (D-LA); Jackie Goldberg (D-LA); Loni Hancock (D-Berkeley), who voted NO;
Jay La Suer (R-La Mesa) and Todd Spitzer (R-Orange), who voted YES;
Rebecca Cohn (D-Saratoga), who ABSTAINED.
