Proposed Legislation Rewards Landlords For Evicting Tenants; Ellis Evictions Will Soar
Dufty & Alioto-Pier Legislation To Gut Condo Conversion Law – If Adopted, It Will Create A Simple Mechanism For Landlords To Repeal Rent Control From Buildings

Plan Will Let TICs Automatically Bypass City's Condo Conversion Law; Tics Created Through Evictions of Senior, Disabled or Catastrophically Ill Tenants Will Get To Bypass Eviction Protections In Condo Law

Supervisors Hearing March 30, 1:00 PM, City Hall (Room 263)

Proposed Legislation Rewards Landlords For Evicting Tenants; Ellis Evictions Will Soar

The Land Use Committee of the Board of Supervisors will hold a hearing on legislation which will let landlords who create Tics through the Ellis Act automatically become condominium subdivisions—without having to follow the city's condo conversion law. In addition to increasing the rate of Ellis evictions, the legislation will provide a simple way for landlords to repeal rent control from buildings by use state law exempting condominiums from rent control. Dufty & Alioto-Pier also seek to exempt Tics from eviction protections designed to limit the evictions of senior, disabled, or catastrophically ill tenants. Their legislation will encourage the use of the Ellis Act to create more Tics and condominiums.

Wanna see another eviction epidemic like the one dot-com boom brought?
The worst Supervisors are at it again, this time with an
instant-condoizing measure that will give landlords another *huge*
incentive to evict tenants--and as usual, it's sugar-coated as "a
quicker route to home ownership." Don't be duped: The Dufty/Alioto-Pier
bill will mean monster increases in Ellis evictions and illegal TICs,
and a deep slash in the number of rent-controlled units in the city.
More details below.

Rally: Noon, Wed., 3/30, at City Hill (Polk St. side)
Hearing: Begins at 1 p.m., Rm 263, City Hall. Come testify against
this handout to speculators & landlords.
[If you are in either Dufty's or Alioto-Pier's district, please call
and let them know you don't want to be forced out of the city and you
oppose this bill.]

> A friend of mine was evicted during the dot-com boom. He is disabled

> Now, the people who moved in after his Ellis Act will get a free
ride.
> Under Bevan Dufty and Michela Alioto-Pier's latest bill they will be
> able to circumvent the condo lottery process and immediately condo
> convert their place...in other words, a huge financial reward to the

> Sends a message to all those future speculators: Go ahead, evict

> Dufty and Alioto-Pier for rewarding those who evict us!
