APRIL 2nd CERES ANTI-POLICE BRUTALITY MARCH!

by LocalBlack.Com (legal [at] localblack.com)
In the wake of the tragic January 9th shooting in Ceres, police have used the the excuse of "gangs" to harass, profile, illegally search, raid homes, and send the poor areas of Ceres into a police state. With no system of citizen control to keep the police in check, local law enforcement are free to profile and label anyone who fits their idea of a "gang member", and use armed SWAT teams against teenagers simply walking in their own
neighborhoods.

This kind of abuse and harassment must end! The community must take control over its own streets!
CERES, CA: The Citizens for a Unified Community Coalition will be holding a demonstration and march in protest of perceived misconduct by the Ceres Police Department which will commence Saturday April 2nd 2005 at 11:00 AM in Smyrna Park in Ceres at the corner of Moffett and Fowler streets.

All people with concerns of Civil Rights violations of themselves and/or their children by recent Gang sweeps conducted by the Ceres Police Department in response to the January 9th 2005 shooting incident are urged to attend and show their support for unification in the community of Ceres as well as a demand for greater appreciation and understanding by local law enforcement of Latino culture.

The demonstration will start at 11:00 am in Smyrna Park. The march will proceed into downtown Ceres and then reconvene for a public comment period upon return to Smyrna Park.

There will be materials available to construct signs for those wishing to do so.
