Anarchist Pride Parade

I hope that doesn't turn out like whatever failed to happen last year by the McDonald's at the end of Haight during the book fair.

Hopefully it wont...it is just a parade...and it's not going anywhere in the direction of the haight...

Yep, bring an American flag, with 13 stripes for the original 13 STATES and 50 stars for the current 50 STATES. That'll show folks that we anarchists aren't afraid to compromise.

Can People post/send me more info about this parade. i'm trying to decide whether to go to e BASTARD conference or the Parade.

Well you sure don't sound like any of the anarchists that I know. "Anarchy is NOT chaos, terror or destruction" so be sure to bring your weapons! WTF?!? Do you really think this is the best way to show pride in anarchist thought, action, and organization?

Perhaps if something more proactive, constructive and inclusive were designed, there would be a better turnout at the Anarchist Pride parade. Instead this is likely to be a punked-out blackbloc type parade. While I certainly think that the blackbloc has its place, I think it is being destroyed by folks who think that that place is everywhere, all the time.

An anarchist pride march is a fantastic opportunity to show the real diversity that exists within anarchist communities. A diversity that is still way too small, but can change, IS changing. An anarchist pride march is a great opportunity to really show the public all the positive creative sides of anarchists. A call to bring weapons, is going to get you only a very particular sort of anarchist. And that's certainly not me.

I siill have not found out much about this parade. Right now -this could change with new info even up to the bookfair- I would say it won't amount to much and recommend to my friends and comrades to go to the BASTARD conference. (i also think "Chaos" day won't amount to much and recommend that people go hear Profesor Churchilll or go to the anarchist coffeehouse,)

On the other hand, lighten up people, The posting said bring weapons ?. That was a joke obviously based on the sterotype of anarchists with bombs. To be honest, the event sound to me, more hippie-ish then black bloc-y. Let a thousand flowers bloom", as Mao tse-tung said in one of his more libertarian moments (He had very few of those.)

If you're going to bring an Amerikkkan flag to this event, let it be an inverted [upside-down] Amerikkkan flag. To indicate the state that this nation has been in for the past 4 years, since George Bush II took office: A state of emrgency. That's what the military [ the Army, Marine Corps, etc.] have done originally to indicate that an area any military base was in under a state of emergency. What "state of emergency" means, ask someone who's been in the military about that. Now the inverted United $laves flag has been adopted by Anarchists as their symbol. As for the "bring weapons" remark, DON'T. This is not that kind of event. Besides, that's what cops AND federal agents want you to do. Do something that endangers Anarchists and everyone else, not to mention open the floodgates to further demonisation/mass arrests of anti-authoritarians.

If you bring the Stars and Stripes (in any direction) expect it to get burned. And for that matter the flag of any nation-state or wannabe nation/state. Where Dee gets the idea that an an anarchist would be support carrying (in any direction) the United Snakes flag is beyond me, but then again i've seen people who call themselves anarchists do lots of crazy and stupid stuff.

A flag upside-down still supports the nation-state (waiting for a time when it could be made better (when the emergency is over). Not that i don't agree that George Bush and the people around him do some very dangerous stuff, I think that most of the bad things that are hapening now have been going on for many, many years.

Personally, my flag is solid black.

Making jokes in a public forum about weapons is incredibly stupid and naive--- particularly in the post-911 era.

Anarchists need to develop some political maturity and put there friends/comrades in check like the original poster.

You're right, Anon. I was not encouraging support for a pathologically-violent, greed-driven Capitalist society at all. On the other hand, Dean made an interesting point about what the proper use for the Amerikkkan flag should be: For kindling.

Not all jokes are funny. The "joke" about weapons wasn't funny --- especially in a public forum. Far from keeping us sane it makes us vulnerable to state slander.

Judi Bari once did a "joke" photo holding an assault weapon. That joke has been used against her and Earth First to this day (even after her death).

Political immaturity is one reason its hard to solidarize with anarchists and one of many reasons that the parade holds no interest for me.

sounds like a very strange idea, because (1) it's set to coincide with the BASTARD conference (who would do that?) and (2) the whole 'weapons?' thing sounds like a cop posted this.

People say that abut the current spartacist league a lot, but you never know if it is a mix of real and fake people.

Unless you specific allegations, treat even the Spartacus League, with it newspaper "Workers Vampire" like they're real.
