You are cordially invite you to the world premiere of MAID IN AMERICA, a documentary about 3 Latina immigrant women working in Los Angeles cleaning houses and taking care of children.
The culmination of three years of research and work, Anayansi Prado’s tough-minded, emotional and exceptionally lucid documentary, MAID IN AMERICA, follows the lives of three Latina immigrants eking it out as nannies and housekeepers. With rare patience and sensitivity, Prado’s camera tracks Judith, Telma and Eva, strong women whose lives have been momentarily sidetracked by poverty and personal problems, but whose determination and courage keep them going in the bustle of L.A.
Struggling with parenthood and the families they left behind, these women are, in Judith’s words, looking not for the American dream but “to live in the reality of who we are.” Scrupulously examining the relationships between employees and employers, this eye-opening film triumphantly gives Latina domestic workers a face and a voice.
Please join us at the 15th CINEQUEST FILM FESTIVAL in San Jose, CA (http://www.cinequest.org) on Sat. 3/5 at 2:30 p.m. and Sun. 3/6 at 2:15 p.m. where you will have the opportunity to meet the filmmaker in person and enjoy this powerful and moving documentary.
