In the Interest of Local, Not Corporate, Timber
Humanity can withstand less access to Maxxam's ill-gotten timber products.
Scientists suspect that redwood roots fuse together underground into a single web of life. This air and water-giving web on which our communities stand has been unnecessarily hacked away. Maxxam and other out-of-state corporations preach about jobs to hide the hundreds of millions of dollars they are sucking out of Northern California. If it really were about keeping timber jobs and a healthy economy, then 1) we wouldn’t need to log nearly as much to sustain ONLY local families, and 2) environmental regulations would be welcomed for the many jobs they bring (scientists, etc.) If there was less timber coming out of these forests consumers wouldn’t die over it (only corporate interests would). Charles Hurwitz chose shortsighted profit over healthy forests and long-term stability. Remember, using recycled wood, recycled paper and alternative technology starts with you and me.
