Committee Meeting #8

Dear Rescue Muni Member -

TODAY - Please attend the Geary Corridor Citizen Advisory
Committee Meeting #8

When: Today, Thursday February 24th
Time: 6:00 pm
Where: SFCTA's offices at 100 Van Ness, 25th floor.

ON GOING GEARY CITIZEN ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING SCHEDULE:
The GCAC will meet on the fourth Thursday of every month from 6:00
p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Background:
The San Francisco County Transportation Authority (SFCTA) is
conducting a Geary Corridor Transit Study. A Geary Corridor
Citizens Advisory Committee has been formed as part of this
process. The study will likely focus on how to implement Bus Rapid
Transit (BRT) West of Van Ness Blvd.

Rescue Muni has a deep interest in the design of this project
because we would like to see a design that is "Rail-Ready" or one
that can be converted to Light-Rail Transit without having to tear-
up the entire street again.

The SFCTA has a different vision for BRT than Rescue Muni. They are
not as committted to planning for rail in the future. If we want to
see a Bus Rapid Transit project that lays the foundation for a
future rail line along the Geary Corridor, we need Rescue Muni
members to get involved in this process. Now is a great time as the
agenda of the GCAC is really starting to focus on the design of the
BRT project.

For a full description Rescue Muni's vision for Geary Rapid Transit,
please see the article in the Winter 2005 issue of the Transfer.

Following and participating in this ongoing process is one of Rescue
Muni's top priorities, so if you have an interest in the future of
Geary service please attend these meetings.

Thank you.
