Teach-in on Measure Y Coalition Plan for Real Violence
Prevention in Oakland

Wednesday, March 16th, 7-9PM at the First Unitarian
Church, 685 14th St (in Oakland betwween MLK and
Castro Streets, near the 12th Street BART Station)

On Tuesday, March 22nd at 7:30PM City staff will be
presenting their implementation proposal of Measure Y
to the City Council Public Safety Commission. On
Tuesday, April 5th at 6PM they will be presenting it
to the full City Council. Join us for a teach-in on
the Measure Y Coalition plan for implementation on
Wednesday, March 16th as we prepare to bring out our
members for these meetings.

The Measure Y Coalition is made up of a broad range of
Oakland organizations and community leaders who
believe that real violence prevention is about
building a strong community with sufficient jobs,
housing, social programs and education, not more
police and prisons.

We want to make sure we pack these two City Council
meetings with people who will speak to implementing
our carefully crafted proposal that represents the
true voices of the Oakland community. We hope to use
this as a launching pad to create further and deeper
proposals for genuine long term solutions to prevent
violence in Oakland.

Our detailed plan includes outline for police
acountability, programs for former prisoners developed
by former prisoners, programs for youth developed by
lifetime youth organizers, and overall guidelines for
cultural competancy, and creating a holistic approach
to violence prevention.

We hope you will join us on March 16th to learn more
and March 22nd and April 5th to pack the Council!
