WHAT:
A one-year anniversary event, in remembrance of Rudy Cardenas. †

WHO:
The family, friends, and supporters of Rudy will be holding the events.

WHERE: 4 th and St. James, Shires Parking Lot.
WHEN: Thursday, February 17, 2005 at 6:00pm.
WHERE: 851 E. Santa Clara St., Roosevelt Park
WHEN: Saturday, February 19, 2005 at 1:00pm

† February 17, 2005 marks the one year anniversary of the tragic death of Rodolfo
Cardenas. Rudy was shot and killed in a case of mistaken identity by an undercover
agent. The agent, Michael Walker, was indicted by a Grand Jury on Voluntary
Manslaughter charges. The Grand Jury decided that there was enough evidence
presented to them that could convict the agent of such a crime. The lawyers of
Michael Walker tried to get the indictment overturned but a Judge ruled against it.
This spring the agent will be put on trial for his carelessness and his wrongdoing.
It's time that people of such stature be held accountable for their actions just as
anyone else would have to be. The family and the community would like to bring the
public awareness back and let people know that this incident is not and will not be
forgotten. Rudy is only of the many that's been wrongfully killed by police and
there needs to be an end to such crimes.

The event on February 17, 2005 will be to remember the loving father of five and to
let people know what a kind and caring man he was. The family wants to honor him and
show their love and appreciation for him. There will be a candlelight vigil and some
songs performed by family members of Rudy.

The event on February 19, 2005 will be a social event. It will be to gather
different organizations together who are all fighting the same battle, equality and
justice. This event will also have some musical performances. There will be a march
for justice through the streets of San Jose. The community needs to be aware of the
types of incidents that happen so commonly in their own streets. How can the
community feel safe in such and environment? † This is an opportunity for people to
speak out about any similar incidents that they have had. It is a day for the
community to bond and form a united front. This is not an isolated struggle.
