Date:
Saturday, February 19, 2005
Time:
12:00 PM
-
2:00 PM
Event Type:
Protest
Organizer/Author:
Jackson West
Location Details:
We are meeting at the Embarcadero station, first level underground, at the Muni fare gate and entrance. Please bring a camera of any kind and $1.25 for a Muni fare.
Local freelance photographer was recently detained by Muni fare inspectors and San Francisco Police for taking pictures on the Muni platform at Montgomery Station on Saturday, February 5th. He was held at the station for an hour while the fare inspectors and policed searched for a code to cite him under, and was verbally abused for trying to defend his rights under the first amendment. There is, in fact, no written code banning photography at Muni stations, though a ban is announced over the station intercom.

Come to peacefully and artfully defend your right to freedom of expression as protected by the 1st Amendment, and challenge the rule of 'secret' laws that are not codified so that they can't be challenged in court as unconstitutional.
