Harvey Milk LGBT Club hosts Adachi/Harris discussion

by Saskia Traill (saskia_traill [at] yahoo.com)
Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club will host a forum to discuss progressive solutions to drug crimes in San Frnacisco. Public Defender Jeff Adachi and District Attorney Kamala Harris will speak and new Milk Club President Greg Shaw will moderate.

When: Tuesday, February 22, 7:00 to 8:00 pm
Where: Women's Building, 3543 18th St. between Valencia and Guerrero, second floor
What: Forum: "Progressive Solutions to Drug Crimes in San Francisco"
Who: District Attorney Kamala Harris, Public Defender Jeff Adachi, moderated by Milk Club President Greg Shaw.

District Attorney Kamala Harris stated that she wants to exclude anyone with a history of drug dealing from Drug Court, a program that diverts individuals facing certain drug-related criminal prosecution into six-month drug rehabilitation and jobs programs. Public Defender Jeff Adachi has responded that this would only increase the likelihood that drug dealers will go back criminal activity after getting out of jail. What are the effective and compassionate solutions for drug crimes in San Francisco?

On February 22 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm, the Harvey Milk LGBT Democratic Club will sponsor a forum about this and other issues around drug crimes in San Francisco moderated by new Milk Club President Greg Shaw and featuring Adachi and Harris. The event will be held at the Women's Building on 18th St. between Valencia and Guerrero.

The District Attorney and Public Defender will each speak for 5 to 10 minutes, and then questions from the audience will be moderated by Shaw.
