2/22: Stop Pesticides in Oakland

Hi all,

We need people to show up 2/22, at 12:30 and/or 7:30... read all about
this at http://www.eastbaypesticidealert.org and sign petition. What is going on is
disgusting... Oakland banned pesticides, then did 2 exemptions and is ready
to do a third. All Oakland parks and other city-managed places are
endangered, it appears, as a ban with exemptions is no ban at all. We've
heard from one council woman that our 3rd party-certified petition is being
ignored but I would still say sign it and make your comments... these are
useful for the media. We were told that only people in person will make any
difference to the council. As many of the people with whom EBPA and Stop
Toxic Trespass work are housebound or get sick being in a room with people
using scented products, even essential oils, we have to get others to be a
loud voice in person, as well as in other ways. Please send letters to the
ed. and to council people.

THIS IS A REGIONAL ISSUE SIMPLY BEING PLAYED OUT BY OAKLAND RIGHT NOW.

Time to make a big stink about these poisons. And please cc letters to
East Bay Pesticide Alert via beneficialbug [at] netzero.net. We believe this
could be preparation for the city to rescind the ban on pesticide use by
Oakland. Can't let that happen. Need to rescind the two irresponsible
exemptions (median strips; new ballfield construction) already in place.

Thanks so much for forwarding this far and wide! And anyone who could step
in and help with media, PLEASE CALL ME asap...510-895-2312 (ideally after 10
am)
