California Attorney General Bill Lockyer and Superintendent of Public
Instruction Jack O'Connell recently filed a courageous and pioneering
lawsuit to
protect the rights of California women! The lawsuit seeks to block the
Weldon
Amendment, a federal restriction that allows insurance companies and
hospitals to
gag their doctors from providing, or even referring, a patient for
abortion
care. In California, the penalty for violating the Weldon Amendment is
the loss
of $49 billion in federal funding for health, education, and labor
services.
"The Weldon amendment tramples on women's constitutional rights, state
sovereignty, and the interests of California taxpayers," said Lockyer.
"It's a
backdoor way to try to repeal Roe v. Wade by using the spending
authority of
Congress to do that."
Attorney General Lockyer and Superintendent O'Connell deserve a big
thank you
for protecting Californians from the powerful anti-choice forces in the
White
House and Congress. Please send them a note of appreciation.

----THIS LETTER WILL BE SENT IN YOUR NAME----
Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],
Thank you for challenging the discriminatory Weldon Amendment and
protecting
the rights and interests of all Californians.
As a woman's right to privacy and choice is under attack by a federal
government intent on challenging states' rights, I appreciate your bold
leadership
and look forward to stopping this vague and dangerous legislation.
