Judi Bari's "Biographer" says don't believe what I write
Judi Bari's "biographer" Kate Coleman says that what she writes should not be taken as fact.
In a controversial book that was brokered by rightist David Horowitz, a "biography" of the late environmentalist-labor activist Judi Bari, Kate Coleman, states that another famous environmentalist, Julia Butterfly Hill, drives a gas guzzling Lexus SUV (in the book, it is stated without such qualifications as "it is rumored" or "some people have alleged"... it simply states that "Julia Butterfly drives a Lexus").
In fact, Julia Butterfly does not own a car, and does not even posses a driver's license.
Coleman, was contacted by a columnist for the East Bay Express about this discrepancy. Coleman responded by saying "I apologize if it was taken as a fact."
And we regret the whole book was not labeled as fiction.
To see more such absurdities, go to "Republicans Say the Darndest Things" at TomJoad.org, also home of the most comprehensive list of military resisters.
Did you hear the one about the female Republican politician who took a stand against women's right to vote? It is all there.

this toad will be at Cody's bookstore on monday feb. 28th at 7:30 peddling her hatchet-job. let's give her a nice welcome....
All of the reactionary Bari-ites are attempting to suppress this book because they don't want the truth about Mike Sweeney and others to come out. Sure, the book's fact checking was sloppy, but the essential message rings very true: that the Earth First/Bari-ite Robot Road Show is more about egos and self-promotion than it is about saving forests.
I read the book and I think it was great - and I encourage everybody to read it, although I think it was very bad that it was published by a neo-con publisher like Encounter Books.

Kate Coleman has publicly admitted that she was recruited and paid to write her hit-piece on Judi Bari by the conservative publisher Encounter Books. Encounter is a non-profit that was set up by the extreme right-wing Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation to publish stealth propaganda aimed at middle Americans. Since they don't exist to make money, there's only one reason why Encounter would put out a book about Judi Bari, and that's to try to rewrite history to tear her down and discredit her as a hero of the progressive environmental movement. Other books from Encounter target Noam Chomsky, affirmative action and public schools. Coleman's track record includes writing hit-pieces on the Black Panthers for David Horowitz and Peter Collier's right-wing Heterodoxy and FrontPage magazines. Collier is now the boss at Encounter.
Nobody is claiming Judi Bari was perfect. She can be criticized based on facts, but Coleman's book is not a source of facts. http://www.colemanhoax.com has a list of over 350 errors in the book. The Friends of Judi Bari website at http://www.fojb.org is another source of facts about Coleman's book.

Bari was scheduled to do a roadshow in the east but her bout with cancer cancelled that trip. she died shortly after she had to cancel that road trip. to say she focused on her lawsuit more than she focused on forest defense is an outright blatent lie, not a mere mistaken fact check failure. coleman's propaganda is worthless, not even worth a few good laughs...
