Come to a night of awesome folk music in a cozy small venue and benefit the Barrio Defense Committee.
Founded in 1994, the Barrio Defense Committee organizes for self determination. We can never be free from oppression, poverty, prisons, humiliation until we are able to control our own lives and our own land for the self interest and well being.
The Centro Aztlan serves as an organizing place for the Barrio Defense Committee, English classes for Spanish speakers, Spanish classes for Enlgish speakers, and monthly concerts for mostly local groups (so far mainly punk rock and hip-hop).
Some reviews of David Rovics:
"in fact if the great Phil Ochs were to come back from the dead tonight he'd probably be hailed as the new David Rovics."
--Andy Kershaw, BBC Radio 3
"David Rovics is the musical version of Democracy Now!"
--Amy Goodman, host, Democracy Now!
About the price, the Centro Aztlan is a small venue for about 50-100 guests. We hope to collect a few hundred for David Rovics and few hundred to help pay rent and utilities for the Centro Aztlan. In order to do this $20 would be an amount to ensure we exceed our goals, $10 would be just sufficient, and $5 will be just enough to pay David leaving nothing to the maintenance of the Barrio Defense Committee.
