1/22/05 SF-32 Years of Abortion Rights Celebrated by 5,000 Opposing Fascism

by Socialist
"Hitler Rose and Hitler Fell, Fascist Idiots, Go to Hell" was heard over and over again in San Francisco as 5,000 of us defending our right to abortion faced down 1500 anti-women, religious, pro-war fascists whom the Democratic Party machine allowed to march in pro-choice San Francisco for the first time, and this had better be the last time.

While there were 2 well-known local Democrats with us, the absence of the Democratic Party, compared to the pro-abortion marches of the 1980s and 1992 was noticeable, and good riddance to it. The Democratic Party is now trying to recruit the anti-abortion crowd, with the new Democratic leader of the Senate, Harry Reid, opposing abortion, as does Rep. Tim Roemer, the possible chair of the Democratic National Committee. Roemer is backed by San Francisco's Congressperson, Nancy Pelosi. Howard Dean, a former Democratic presidential candidate, supports anti-abortion members of the Democratic Party, as did John Kerry, who opposed abortion and said he would appoint anti-abortion judges. The largest single political group at our fabulous pro-abortion demonstration were the socialists, and it is the socialists, such as Peace and Freedom Party, as well as the Green Party (which is not socialist) which support our right to abortion. The Republican Party opposes our right to abortion and the Democratic Party is doing its best to be as anti-abortion as possible.

We had a wonderful brass band, lots of drummers, a wide variety of colors and signs, and tremendous vitality, with people of all ages and colors.

This permitting of a fascist demonstration in San Francisco, obviously led by the Catholic Church, is an attempt to establish a fascist base in San Francisco. Anytime something like this is allowed, it must be met with the most determined opposition possible.

The blockade near Castagnola's restaurant was wonderful, but it should have occurred at Pier 1, as the anti-women, anti-science idiots came out of our public park, Justin Herman Plaza. They should never have been allowed to rally at any public park or on any public street. They should never have been given a permit as they are falsely yelling fire in a crowded theater, and that is murder. They are the murderers of women. They should have been forced to turn around and go back on their buses.

These people were not from the backwoods of California. There was one group from Marin Catholic High School. I am sure the others were from the area as well. Marin County has a strong pro-abortion community, but it is not immune from fascism, and neither is San Francisco.

This attack on women's right to abortion is part and parcel of the growing fascism perpetrated by Bush & Co that includes the president of Harvard University attacking women scientists and engineers and the attack on Social Security. Most senior citizens are women, as are most people receiving the survivor benefits of Social Security.

The ruling capitalist class in the USA is carrying out the same anti-labor, anti-women, anti-abortion, racist, pro-death penalty, pro-war agenda that the capitalist class of Nazi Germany did for the same reason, to maximize the profits of the capitalist class. The whole stinking private profit system must be abolished, which can be done by an organized labor movement.

It was wonderful to see everyone at the barricades for the 32nd Anniversary of Roe v. Wade guaranteeing our right to a safe and legal abortion!

"Hitler Rose and Hitler Fell, Fascist Idiots, Go to Hell" was heard over and over again in San Francisco as 5,000"

We had many. They had many and it was well beyond 1500. Let's be honest before we proceed.

"While there were 2 well-known local Democrats with us, the absence of the Democratic Party, compared to the pro-abortion marches of the 1980s and 1992 was noticeable, and good riddance to it. Right on! I so agree.

"The largest single political group at our fabulous pro-abortion demonstration were the socialists, and it is the socialists, such as Peace and Freedom Party, as well as the Green Party (which is not socialist) which support our right to abortion."

But you guys are at every rally. How else are you going to sell those newspapers? :) Seriously, I would imagine that most people who were there belong to the silent majority within the Left...those who don't affiliate with anyone, but who are out there out of personal, political, and moral reasons. They also don't want to buy your paper. Hello?

"This permitting of a fascist demonstration in San Francisco, obviously led by the Catholic Church, is an attempt to establish a fascist base in San Francisco."

This was not a fascist demonstration. Please. Can we do away with all of the rhetoric. I know a fascist when I see one. As many of us who were on the original clinic defense teams during Operation Rescue's heyday. Also, fascists are identified by their willingness to ignore law and be proactively violent as a political tactic. These people were peaceful. And because you don't remember, but fascists were a heresy of socialism, not of conservative religious doctrine. Hitler and Mussolini were both schooled in socialist thought, hence the name National Socialists aka NAZI.

"Anytime something like this is allowed, it must be met with the most determined opposition possible."

Now we are getting at fascism! This statement is by-the-dictionary Fascist. You are suppose to be OUR ally? Sorry, but freedom of speech is universal, ESPECIALLY for speech we DON'T like!

"They should never have been allowed to rally at any public park or on any public street. They should never have been given a permit as they are falsely yelling fire in a crowded theater, and that is murder. They are the murderers of women. They should have been forced to turn around and go back on their buses."

This is so bad, I wonder if a cop or a fool wrote it. I don't believe whoever wrote it speaks for the Peace and Freedom socialists, because the ones I know would find this statement outrageous and laughable.

"The ruling capitalist class in the USA is carrying out the same anti-labor, anti-women, anti-abortion, racist, pro-death penalty, pro-war agenda that the capitalist class of Nazi Germany did for the same reason, to maximize the profits of the capitalist class."

Um, I didn't see many mink coats down there today. In fact, I saw one of them with a UFW flag. Unfortunately, this right-wing reaction comes from the working class, like it has historically.

"The whole stinking private profit system must be abolished, which can be done by an organized labor movement."

The SAME organized labor that historically discriminated against Chinese, Blacks, and Gays in San Francisco? I don't think we should count on them for anything!!

"It was wonderful to see everyone at the barricades for the 32nd Anniversary of Roe v. Wade guaranteeing our right to a safe and legal abortion!"

I agree. Peace.
by get your facts straight
These *particular* people were peaceful *this time." But never forget they are part of a movement that uses terrorism to force its will on the rest of us. These people who marched today are on the same side as the Army of God and the Phineas Priests. In the daylight, when the cameras roill, they are on their their best behavior. At night, and when no one is looking, they murder people like us in cold blood.

And the other side is different........ how?

seems all really obviuos to me ending choice won't end abortion, calling people that hold different views on the origins of life "fascists" isn't going to address their issues either.

you all are being divided and conquered by this issue. people that feel so strongly and could achieve so much for a better world continually throwing rotten eggs at each other without taking the time to look at who is really behind this divide tactic.

reminds me of the Marxist division between town and country, between worker and farmer.

maybe it is time to reflect on things a little more.

pro-life but not anti-choice.
by as so many here do
the issue is a divide between men and women. also, women who are willingly controled by the paternalism of men and those who are not.

the anti-choice people try to sanctify themselves by saying "women deserve better than abortion" and keeping the fetus pictures and clinic bombers away from the demonstration. the fact is that although many would not say so, the anti-choicers support the clinic harassment of Operation Rescue and the murder of physicians who provide the option of abortion.

abortion is such a personal choice, there will be no unity on the issue. Women who don't need others telling them what to do with reproductive choice will stand firm and you can either get behind them or not. Abortions will continue no matter what happens with Roe vs Wade. That's the reality of it. Unfortunately so will rape and incest.
by atheists are also pro-life
i've heard that argument alot when i bring this divide issue up. there are alot of queer feminist pro-lifers, sorry trying to portray this as a gender issue isn't going to address the differences of opinon that remain in terms of when life begins, that is the issue not who is in control of whose bodies or destinies. until you can actually talk to people as individuals instead of stereotypes you are just, in my opinion, playing into the capitalists ruling classes hands. time for deeper answers then stereotyping and either/or statements which actually remind me of reactionary zealots then intelligent thought-out revolutionary empowering beliefs.

but that is amerika. divided and conquered you remain.
by I don't care what atheists are
You still can't tell me what to do with my body. I respect your choice to do what you want to with your body, if you don't respect mine, then go to wherever atheists go instead of hell.
